Vastu Tips for house

Home is our abode of love where we expect to enjoy the fruits of our labor. We expect to enjoy our peace & happiness, progress & prosperity, health & wealth and faith & spiritual development from our home. If its surroundings and construction are poor and the atmosphere eerie, we can neither be happy nor healthy. Hence to ensure that the house is built properly, in modern times we take the help of the professionals who can build a good house with a solid foundation, strong walls, a proper structural balance with the right weight and pressure distribution, proper plumbing, electricity, air light etc. This branch of modern knowledge is called architecture, or civil engineering.

Vastu Sashtra – Land & plot Situation of Plot

Here’s a concise version in bullet points:

  • Avoid plots that were burial grounds or crematoriums.
  • A plot between two larger plots is inauspicious and may bring poverty.
  • Obstructions (hills, tall buildings, towers) in the north, northeast, or east block sunlight and are unfavorable.
  • Obstructions in the west or south are beneficial as they block harmful rays and bring prosperity.
  • A water source in the southwest (well, pool, lake, river) is inauspicious and may bring misery.
  • A water source in the northeast is auspicious and promotes positivity.
  • The boundary wall should be higher on the west and south and lower on the north and east for good energy flow.

Vastu for Entrance and Main Door

  • Main door should be larger than other doors and have two shutters, opening inward.
  • Teak wood is ideal for the entrance door.
  • A house should have two entrances, with the exit door smaller and having one shutter.
  • If there are two external doors, they should not be in a straight line.
  • There should be no wall directly in front of the entrance; a door to the next room is preferred.
  • The main door should not have a shadow falling on it.
  • The west wall is acceptable for the main door, but the south side is not recommended.
  • It is auspicious if the property entrance and the house’s main door are on the same side.

Vastu for Bedroom

  • Master bedroom should be in the southwest or northwest; if on an upper floor, it should be in the southwest corner.
  • Children’s bedrooms should be in the northwest or west; younger children’s rooms can be on the east.
  • Newly married couples should avoid bedrooms on the east side.
  • Guest bedrooms are best in the northwest but can also be in the northeast.
  • Wall colors: Light rose, dark blue, dark green, gray, etc.
  • Bedroom door should be in the east, west, or north, ideally with one shutter.
  • Study area should be on the east side of the bedroom.
  • Wardrobe should be in the northwest or southwest.
  • TV, heaters, and ACs should be in the southeast corner.
  • Southwest corner of the room should not be vacant.
  • Attached bathrooms should be on the west or north sides.
  • Safe (locker) should be on the south wall, opening north (if kept in the bedroom).
  • Avoid keeping deity photos, calendars, or idols in the bedroom.

  • Mirrors should not directly face the bed in the bedroom.
  • Best placement: On the north or east walls of the dressing room.
  • Avoid placing mirrors on the south or west walls.

  • Dining room location: Preferably on the west, east, or north side of the house.
  • If the kitchen is on the ground floor, the dining room should also be on the ground floor.
  • Dining room door: Should be on the east, north, or west, and should not have arches.
  • Main entrance door should not directly face the dining room’s door.
  • Seating direction:
    • Head of the family should face east while eating.
    • Other members can face east, north, or west (avoid south).
  • Dining table shape: Square or rectangular (avoid round or oval).
  • Table should not be attached to or fold from the wall.
  • Sink placement: Northeast corner, or north or east sides of the dining room.

    • Finished goods: Northwest, East, or Southeast (prefer Northwest).
